What are the adenoids?

Adenoids are an accumulation of lymphatic tissue, located in the transition zone between the nose and mouth, because they are hidden behind the palate. When the adenoids are too large, they produce symptoms by obstruction of the passage of air through the nose.

Symptoms produced by large adenoids:

  • Difficulty breathing through the nose which forces breathing through the mouth
  • You talk like your nose is clogged
  • Breathes loudly
  • Snores during the sleep
  • You may have apnea breaks (stop breathing for a few seconds while you sleep)
  • Nasal colds, permanent mucus on the nose.
  • Nighttime cough.
